If your midyear big block has a VB&P spreader bar installed, and assuming that you're running electric fan(s), please respond with a description or photos of the mounting location at the upper control arms.

Thanks.

Sorry Bob But I cant answer your question I just wanted to say that this may be the first un-answered question I have seen for this forum.

Haven't installed one myself but, as I understand it, VBP has two versions. One is used with a mechanical fan and you have to weld the brackets in the right position to clear the fan and shroud. The other is pre-welded and used with electric fans. I did find one description with pictures and will send them to you.

Thanks Rich. It looks like I purchased the wrong one, although it can be fixed with some minor fabrication.

I ordered the weld-it-yourself version figuring that would give me the greatest number of mounting choices. Turns out that version has much shorter brackets at the upper control arm cross shaft mounting location.

We'll make up longer brackets and be good to go........unless VB&P reads this and says we'll trade you mounting brackets. ;)

Thanks again.

I have it in a 68 L88 clone if you want some picts. Used a dual spal fans radiator.

Thanks Tyler. I'd appreciate that.

Also, I'd be interested in knowing the length of the bar portion itself, not counting the heim joints. I'm assuming you bought the pre-welded version. I'm beginning to think there are two bar lengths available, depending if you order pre-welded or un-welded.

Thanks much.

This eMail just came in.......

The 42223 has a bar that is 2" shorter. Contact our sales dept for exchange info.

Yep, the bar is different lengths depending on which type you order. Look like I'll be talking to them about an exchange.

Thanks everyone.

Me 2

67heaven,

If there is any problem with the exchange thing with VBP, I have a few of these set's ( the welded up ones ) on the shelf, and if need be I can swap one out with you for the cost of the Pony Express. I have a few builds coming, and I also do the powder coating in house, so swapping yours wouldn't be a problem for me.

Also there would not be any border sh-t to contend with, so whatever works is good

regards
Bob

stepinwolf,

You've got a deal. I'll PM you to set things up. Thanks for the offer.

My foot's often in it

Tyler,

I remember my mother often saying to me, " Son, you missed another good chance to keep your mouth shut " so I will do so once again. Not that it's any of my business, but I learned this the hard way, and past experiences have almost always been beneficial to others.

In your post you mention that the temp gauge was siliconed in place, so I must inform you that no sealer, tape, or otherwise, is recommended for use when installing these type of screw in sensors. It needs a complete, correct ground through the threads, in order to give you the proper reading.

For what it's worth

This is what it looks like in a 68. The radiator is a 29 in unit from DeWhitt and just about does not fit. (Took a little grinding) The temp sensor for the fans is laid on top and siliconed in place, it works fine. The temp runs at whatever I set the thermo to to turn on the fans, no matter what the outside temperature is stop and go or interstate.

Tyler

Thanks for the photos. I agree with you on the Dewitt rad/fan combo. I can't believe how cool this 502 runs. Where was Dewitts 20 years ago when I really needed him? :D

Look again its not a screw in sensor, its a 2 wire type that does not need a ground return. They recommended the sensor be placed in a water hose, so I figured laying it on the metal of the radiator and cemented it down.

Sorry,

My nistake, :ugh too many windows open at the same time, and I overlooked the pic.

Bob

No problem. Last time I looked at my sons computer setup he had 2 21 in screens and 4 or 5 windows open on each. I asked him how he kept track of what was going on with all those windows open and he just looked at me like I was too simple to understand the answer. And he wants the 68 !!

I put the spreader bar on hoping to solve a tire shake problem. I have 265 tires on 9.5x17 rims with 2 1/2 spacers and even balanced and aligned I get tire shake at 35-45 mph which the bar did not solve. I may have to go down to 235 tires on the front.

Kudos to stepinwolf for helping me out. It sure was a lot easier trading him for the correct spreader bar than it would have been in returning mine back across the U.S. border (both ways) to VB&P and dealing with all the shipping and paperwork hassles.

Here we have a great example of cooperation between "Quebec" and "the rest of Canada". :D

Thanks very much Bob. I'll install it tonight or tomorrow.

67heaven,

Glad to have been of help

As far as the cooperation between " Quebec " and the rest of " Canada " is concerned, it is not with the citizens that you should have any problems, most of us are the same here as anywhere else.

The problem is with the f-cking dumb-ass politicians. :mad In this Province they are just as brain dead as in every other Province or State, with their own agenda, and bulls-it policies. In this case it's the #$%&* Quebec Separatist Party that are drumming their BS promises, to a general population that is almost 40% il-literate.

When you can't read, it is difficult to make an intelligent decision, and that's precisely what is happening. It's much easier to scare people, then to try and teach them to read and understand.

I apologize for all the ranting, but this is a delicate subject around here. Most people don't realize what's really going on, and it urinates me off. ;shrug

Gheez, you did a lot today.........sorry I missed it. This working for a living is really interupting my free time;LOL

Take care,
Brian
