I installed a #330 composit spring on my 75 I torqued the plate bolts to 65lbs and the plate bent the two bolts closest to the rear of the car are want won't stay torqued, the plate bends in the middle and on the out side corners, my chiltons manual said 50-75 lbs so I installed a second plate and only torqued to 50 lbs and trhis plate bent too, any ideas what im doing wrong I slowely tighten bolts until reaching torq level .
This spring unlike the stock one has a rubber pad on top and bottom of it.

Here is a pic of the problem
Doesen't look that bad in the pic but that plate shouldent bent right its holding my spring in ?

I will be installing a new 330# VBP composite rear spring soon. I also did not know the proper torque spec for the spring plate so I emailed VBP. The chief tech there told me 30-35#,I also thought and had heard anything from 40#-75# obviously those figures are wrong !

I waiting to here back from VBP they sold me the spring kit 30-35 sounds like what I will half to do ,at that low of a torq will half to use lock tight to keep bolts in, just seems like your susepsion yould require more torq, the spring rides great was concered it would be to soft actually a little stiff did the Blisteen sport shock and the 460 springs in front rides great just tired and worried about this stupid plate just ordered the 3rd one today .........

Clarence here is the thread Dean is refering too about the torq specs.. Torq Specs

Ok good thread Bud
I did have Gymkhana thats the plate that bent at 50lbs I have been torqing in the air will try 35 in the air and 45 on the ground still waiting for answer from VBP.
guess its better to bend the plate than brake the carrier ,learing how to be my own Corvette menechic here with some help.....

Be sure to note that the Torque spec supplied were from my GM shop manual and are for the Steel Spring ;)

The spring plate bolts aren't supposed to be final-torqued unless the full weight of the car is on the spring, flattening it out; torquing those bolts with the spring unloaded can also break the ears off the carrier.
:beer

Ok got the specks from VBP should of been included with spring but wasen't my fault for not checking 35-45 lbs max, set your torq ,drive the car and recheck torq, ajustible bolts can be set at any lenght and does not affect ride control only height , tighen ajustable bolts 1"1/8 for every inch in ride height you wish to gain, car weight is only tention on spring will not dearch so says tech support at VBP, any way so waiting on one more plate in the mail will torq properly and finally move onto anouther project thanks for your help ...............:cool
