I would like to buy a used C6 coupe and drove an '08 yesterday and it appeared that the top was squeeking horribly! This car only had 9,000 miles on it. Then I asked a friend who bought a new '08 last fall and he said with just a couple of thousand miles on it, it was starting to have what he thought were "top" squeeks. Is this a common happening? Is there a design problem or is it just these two '08 models that just happened to be squeeking?

Unfortunately, a noisy top is common for C6 coupes. There are a couple easy fixes for this issue.

The first is to take the car to your local dealer and a have them do the repairs as per service bulletin #
08-08-67-013.

The other is to do what I did and follow the instructions in this thread
.

Once I fixed the popping from the roof, my C6 became squeak free.

I followed Twiget's advice as per bulletin (#08-08-67-013B). The dealer installed the new parts in less than 30 min and haven't had a squeak since.

The C6 frame was designed from the onset to be a convertible. This means it is extremely rigid. Some "flex" was tuned into the frame to keep it from feeling "wooden." This is for track purposes. This flex shows itself in the A-piller roofline. Since it's rubber gasket is dry, it will squeek. Some rubber lubricant will fix this malady. (WD-40 is NOT the correct fix, it'll dry and crack the rubber.)
There are dry lubricants that can be effective also, but may not be as durable.

they also may replace the handles as they did on mine. (P/N 19206591 & 192065592)

So is the Z06 poping, groaning and squeeking free because the top is fixed? And is the poping etc. always fixable or does the factory service bulletin not always cure the problem? I wouldn't want a car that couldn't be fixed. The one I drove would make me crazy!

The c6 top is the most annoying part of the car. It's noisy as hell.Goop, velcro, new latches all are prescribed as fixes.Whether or not they actually work is a crap shoot.I've used the goop and velcro AS WELL AS " O" rings. The top is ok when it's on but a horror story when stored in back.It rattles and creaks like a 400 year old broad!

Squeek

I have a 2008 C6 bought new. I have less than 5000 miles on it. Could it be the squeeks are related to how many times the top has been removed and put back on? Just a thought.

By the way...I don't have a squeek.:dance

This is about the strangest, most bizarre thing I have ever read about the C6. I have not read this in any company literature nor have I seen it anywhere else on the internet. Do you have a source for this information? I find it surprising only because Chevrolet has worked for decades in making the corvette chassis as stiff as possible, this is why they invented the hydroforming process for the single-piece frame rails.

I'm looking forward to reading whatever source you got this information from.

I have an 08 vert and not a squeek or rattle at 13,000 miles

As the original owner of my 08' I wish I could say the same!

I am really disappointed at the amount of squeaks, rattles, and overall vibration noise.

I've been driving Corvettes as my DD's for the past 16 years and this is the most annoying one I've owned.

My C4 was tighter and less noisy as was my C5.

Aside from the roof panel issue (currently solved by forum members advice using c-clamps) I have a vibration/humming sound coming from where the passenger air bag is located.

My drivers door groans when opening and closing. My door squeaks when it is raining out - go figure that one!

But the vibration noise is so loud and annoying I am seriously thinking of trading in for something I've never owned (Porsche Cayman, BMW M3/5, even a Nissan 370Z).......well maybe!

Now that I'm done venting, :madI'll probably hold on for the arrival of the C7 - let's just hope they bring back the best color....ATOMIC O':cool

Roof Squeak

I ordered a new 2008 C6. Had the same problem. Tried various things that worked minimally. Finally found a simple solution. A thin layer of silicon grease on the top of the front windshield panel where the roof panel sits. It did the trick and have not had any more noises in thousands of miles and different temperature.
