Cool - I'm thinking about doing this. Do stainless steel exhaust systems sound different then other types? More rumble, less rumble etc?

not as far as I know...they just last forever w/o rusting

Before asking this question I guess I should have done a search but.......what S/S exhaust vendor to members recommend? Actually I just need all the pipes since I already have the S/S mufflers.

I bought my chambered exhaust from Mid America for my 73. Fit perfect right down to the collectors on the headers. Installed on jack stands in about an hour. Just my 2 cents

You bought and exhaust system that was already set up with the collector for headers? I didn't think that was possible.

Actually they just included the reducers that slid right in. I was expecting trouble in that area but I told them I had headers and they sent the correct set-up.

How do you like the chambered exhaust? Does it give you the sound you were looking for? I've been considering it for my 77 with a 383.

I have headers on mine and I love it. Im not sure if I would like it as a daily driver although I have a cat-back on my Ford truck (not nearly as loud). It has the big block side pipe sound for a fraction of the cost. Everybody is different when it comes to noise. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and not to many Corvette's were quiet back then

I have the same chambered setup on my 64 with headers. No doubt, it is loud. I think it is louder than any sidepipes I have ever heard. I like it but I get comments both ways. Some of my friends say I have to get real mufflers and others tell me to leave it alone. I really depends on what you like.

I have ceramic headers into a dual exhaust with a crossover,& 2 Flowmaster 40's on my '79. I dont think its loud enough! I have a 350 with a cam,Weiand Action Plus manifold,Holley carb, etc. Maybe its cuz I'm sure I'm probly only in only 250-295 HP range? I'm fitting a new hood now with 1.5" more clearance,so I will be getting an Air-Gap manifold eventually

is there really a reason for SS pipes under the car if ya ain't driving in the winter and/or salt? Sure the surface rust looks poopy, but if you don't show your car and the underside, the regular ol' pipes should last a long time. Mufflers will go before the pipes. The heat of the pipes keeps water from collecting on it and creating subsurface rust damage (IMHO). I've had mine on my car for years and yeah, they have surface rust, but very very minor.
