I have started to install of the TPiS Air intake, but not finished yet, here are some of the steps:

I removed the front shroud, since I sold my BP rammer I needed a new shroud. After the shroud was removed I cut it out for the TPiS piece. I left the 2 tangs there for my AUX Fan mount.

Next, I stalled the Bottom plate of the TPiS Housing. I used 4 screws to hold it in place, One on each side and 2 in front.

Next I checked to see if the filter would clear the tangs left for the Fan. it does, Some filter area seems a little blocked, but should be fine.

Finally, since I have switched to the Speed Density ECM and I am not using the MAF anymore, I made a custom connection for the Air box to the TB.
There is a short piece of PVC Tubing glued to the Airbox (which I need to paint Black) and I am using a 90-92 TPI Camaro Bellows..

That is as far as I have gotten. I have already check hood clearance and everything should fit fine. I just hope it warms up a bit here to get it back on the car.

Thanks for the pictures Jeff! (and for not using "attachments" to show 'em - makes it easier, I'm lazy :L) :upthumbs

I see you glued the piece of PVC pipe to the housing. Maybe that's what I'll have to do; I'm in the same boat and not using the MAF.

Yep.. It seems to be holding quite well, now I just have to paint it black..

I don't know man, I just don't think that air filter is going to work to well with the plastic on it :D j/k

Looks alot better than the Breathless box.

So this bad boy is going to pick up the air that is otherwise directed into the radiator area.

We have another member here that build one like this from scratch. He used a metal mesh on the back side and pulled the whole thing together from off the shelf hardware store stuff.

Who is it? I can't remember! He even sent me a pic of it, but it got deleted off my hard drive!!!!!!!

anyway, it look sweet. As is, the poor engine has to suck off air that it can beg and steal from around the closed off front area.

This should work really well. I wonder if you will experience any higher engine temps as you no longer have the full force of air going up and through the radiator?

Keep us posted!

I don't think it will increase engine temps.. I was using the Breathless box before which get air fromt he same spot.

:cool

I want to get a cold air intake, but my tranny cooler is mounted on the opposite side of the air filter housing so i'de have to move it if I got the tpis unit......

good luck with it!

UPDATE

Finally finished the install.. some of the screws for the shroud stayed in the work bench.. there was no way I was going to get some in. The Shroud and box are solid..

Here is the shroud installed

:L Funny, I just went through the same thing with mine Jeff, although I was just looking to mount my oil cooler and wanted to access the underside of the shroud. Try as I might though, I could not see how I could reach those two screws on each end at the lowest part of the shroud. I was down to those two screws but gave up finally because it wasn't actually necessary for me to remove the shroud.

How in the hell do you reach those screws?!!? :confused

_ken :w

By the way, nice job you did there! :upthumbs

The ones towards the front or back? For the front I had to remove the horns.. for the back I am not sure how I got to them now .. LOL

Yes Nick, that is the Camaro Bellows

That other member would be me Chris. And yes I sent you pics. The post here is a reduced quality to fit on the forum.

I didn't get as involved as Jeff and cut my existing shroud with a dremel and then installed and sealed the vent.

It makes the engine compartment loose a little air flow at low speeds. Before I swapped to the 160deg stat I noticed a few degrees increase at < 25mph. Once I hit about 35mph no problem. With a 160deg stat the engine is running cool enough that this isn't a problem. And I've been through terrible rain with issues there either. It works and the car breaths way better.

Nice job Jeff!
