Going to start chipping away at my list of things to do beginning with the starter so I can at least get the vette running so I can start working on the clutch issues, again... Been looking around for a new starter and I'm seeing different mounting brackets on starters that all say they'll fit my 1990. I'm also seeing a sizeable price difference. I don't need a "high performance" starter, just one that's good quality so I don't end up doing this again in a year. Do I just go to auto zone and pick one up, or do I order one out of ecklers?

Put a factory ac delco starter on and it didn't make it through 10 miles before it became heat soaked and failed. Just ordered a mini starter from jegs...lets try this again.

And there was NO warranty on the ac/Delco? I hope you took it back. Were there shims involved or forgotten?. Was starter to flywheel(torque conv.) ring gear mesh ever checked?..... To be sure the "Bendix" as we called it(starter drive gear), moved in and out of engagement, without binding.

Starters may need to be shimmed to setup proper tooth engagement. Check YouTube, I'm certain there will be videos.

Starter was a bad rebuild. Ac delco gave me a full refund. I tried a mini starter but either the battery cables needed to be rerouted or if you turn it the other way the solenoid hit the cat. converter. So I went back to the factory ac delco starter( a different one) and it seems to be working fine.
