Question: Steering slips

Hey, I just bought my first corvette - an '84 coupe. Had it for about 2 months now. Sometimes, if I haven't started it up in a day or so, the steering will slip intermittently for the first couple minutes of driving. It feels like the steering wheel totally disengages for a split second. After a couple minutes of driving the problem goes away. My steering fluid reservoir is full. Wondering if my pump is starting to malfunction?

Any idea what the problem is? Hate for this to happen on the highway.

I might not understand your "steering slips" description, but here's a possibility. If the steering wheel occasionally takes a new position, about an eighth of a turn from the original position, it might be the vibration isolator, that's located in the intermediate steering coupler. Just above the u-joint that attaches to the steering rack, look for the anti-rotation safety pin, shown in my photo. If the rubber sleeve in the vibration isolator is broken, this pin will be off-center. As you drive, this pin will shift from one side of the hole to the other side, which gives you the new steering wheel position.
