I just replaced my steering valve and followed the fairly horrible directions to adjust the valve. With the car on stands, when i start it the wheels remain straight as they should with the wheel dead center. However after driving it the car keeps pulling to the left. Ive readjusted the valve twice afterwards and do now want to fidget with it anymore. Should i just go and try to have the car aligned? With the old valve the car didnt have much of an oncenter feel and the wheel would not return aftering have turned it but the car never pulled to either side. thanks all

you should adjust the nut on your valve unit with the cylinder very loose or better, unbolted . turn the nut until the rod starts to pull in, the turn nut until the rod starts back out then just turn it enough to where the rod doesnt go in or out by its self. the engine must be running when you do this adjustment. if it pulls to the left or right after this is adjusted you probably need an alignment. hope this helps.

Thanks

thats how i set it up, but the wheel is off center by about 1/8, ill take it in for an aligment, thanks. i was just afraid to play too much with the adjusment nut.

i had some strange steering problems on my 82. the steering box was adjusted too tight that caused it not to return to center after a steering input. the other problem was that it wandered. after trying many differnt things (alingment, shocks, control valve) i tried new front tires. the tires that were on the car in good shape they were BFGs and the correct size, but they were the larger optional size. when i switched to the smaller standered size (still BFGs) the car handled perfect!!
