stock tt wastegates

Pete, have you opened up your gates a little more? I don't understand some of this. Ultra Slow runs an upgraded wonderbar, LTR and Base, plus a custom dual 3" exhaust with no cats. He does run 58", but I think its by choice.

I'll be getting my car back later this week. Im going to experiment with some boost levels and see whats up. Right now I run stock mufflers with no cats, I also have the upgraded wonderbar.

In an attempt to interject humor here...I've got to give you Callaway guys a lot of credit - gates, wastegates, etc.....you have me lost. It's like Chinese to me. That's probably because I'm completely clueless about turbos and how they operate. :L

Come to the Dark Side, Rob. The power will corrupt you :D

PS Gates = wastegates cause Im too lazy to type it all out :L

I have driven Ultras car, and I can tell you that you can very easily hit way over 60" . But you control this to an extent at the gas pedal. Ultra also installed a an adjustable FPR, and if I had to guess it's at the edge now.

On a more modified engine, specially one with an aftermarket intake that allows the engine to spin higher, I can easily see the complications being magnified.

There is a point on a callaway, that if you go beyond, you just about have to reconfigure the entire system.

There is a guy on CF.com who's 90 B2k dynoed 601rwhp...do you remember that thread, Sam? I'll see if I can get him over hear to explain how he skirted this problem.

More than likely, he had to use some aftermarket wastegates.
But lets keep this in perspective, any one making those types of rwhp had better have replaced the stock rods (factory pink) for the better aftermarket ones, at this point you know damn well this engine has been out and fitted (hopefully)with the proper components, in order to provide the proper margin of safety, otherwise you'd be hearing about how it failed. Anyone that has blown a turbo or supercharged engine knows that if things are not just right, it don't take much, and then your SOL.

wastegates

After a lenghty talk with Mike Zoner at Callaway a solution can be attained. The turbo housing will have to be opened up . After doing that a new seat for the valve will have to be milled and a larger valve will be installed and a heavier spring will be added this will cure the boost problem.

Pete - Thanks for taking the time to check on this - I know we discussed this the other day extensively and I was hoping you would post the outcome :)
I knew the spring was part of the conversation - (and I also remember Wayne and Mike talking about a valve)
Again - Glad to see the solution could be had while retaining the "stock look" :beer

Sam - How true that is :( I have known many folks who got greedy with the boost... These are special cars and having had other turbo cars, the recipie for performace is not quite the same.

I knew a guy who cobbled up a plan w/ his B2K and the results were less than desireable :( The car got put back together and sold - these are great performing cars but 1/4 mile track useage takes great care from what I have seen so far :beer
