Horton, MI - Three years after a 1964 Corvette was stolen, it is returned to its owner, and two suspects are charged. Jackson County Undersheriff Tom Finco tells News 10 the classic Corvette had been stored in a remote pole barn in Sandstone Township when it was stolen in November of 2005. Undersheriff Finco says he believes the suspects, Daniel Schuler and John Olivier, discovered the car in the barn and towed it away. Schuler stored the car in his garage for a time, then left it under a cover in his yard.
Authorities believe that earlier this year, Schuler had the car brought to a man in Horton to get it restored. In September, a Corvette collector, who knew the owner of the car, thought he recognized it parked in Horton. The authorities were notified, and after an investigation Schuler, 37, was arrested, and Olivier, 22, turned himself in to the court. Both men are free on bond, charged with larceny over $1,000 and breaking and entering an occupied building.
In another twist to the story, the stolen car was discovered within a mile of the business the Corvette owner ran.
