i AM ABOUT TO PUT MY 1998 IN STORAGE FOR THE WINTER. CAN I JUST TAKE OUT THE BATTERY WITHOUT HAVING PROBLEMS NEXT SPRING? I HAVE USED A "BATTERY MINDER" IN THE PAST BUT I READ TOO OFTEN ABOUT CORVETTES BURNING DOWN WHEN THE BATTERY IS LEFT CONNECTED.

Not sure what you mean by corvettes burning down with the battery connected, never heard of that myself.

You will be fine with removing the battery if you choose to do so. I would keep a battery tender on the removed battery though, as any battery removed from the vehicle will still self discharge and eventually start to internally sulfate. Good luck with it. :)

I use a Battery MINDer on both of mine for lengthy periods of inactivity (3 months or more, at times) -- with the battery still in the vehicle... Never heard of the 'burning down' problem either -- nor have I had any issues whatsoever with keeping them connected; car fires right up when I turn the key.

It is highly advised to put your Corvette on a battery tender for any length of time that it won't be used. The battery tender will NOT burn out anything.

I hook up the "Battery Tender" each time I put the Vette up on the lift. I know that C4C5specialist (Paul) says the battery ought to be disconnected if it will sit for more than 2 (?) months.

Thats what GM recommends and I agree with Paul .Removing the battery from the car completely and placing in on a tender might be best .

When I store in Florida I disconnect the Negative (3-6 wks) and I've had no problems reprogramming .

Yes ,fire can occur but mostly on older cars .I have an acquaintance that lost a nice mid year and garage .
