stubborn shock mounts help!!???

Well im really up against it!!!! Im trying to remove my strut rods on my 81 so I can replace the bushings,but I cant get the lower shock mount out of the spindle support!!! Any clue how I get them out I tried hitting them with a hammer but no go,and I reallt dont want to break something.:cry

PB Blaster (lots of it) over a couple of days, then go at them with an air hammer (burp gun) with nuts protecting the threads; much easier/faster than a hammer, and won't break an ear off the spindle support casting.

i'll have to go with John, soak them bad boys with something. The shop that did my rear end rebuild busted one. i will say fast corvette can replace them fast tho.

Along with the other's suggestions, try and raise the shock mount up with a jack to relieve the pressure. It's amazing what the slightest angle will do to prevent removal. Try and get it as horizontal as possible.

It's hard to explain, but hopefully that made some sense.

As a last resort, you can cut them with a sawzall.

Well after using PB Blaster and Seafoam deep creep and a air hammer they wouldent budge!!! so I took my die grinder with thin cut off wheels and hacked em out!! Only thing i can say is ouch the new bolts aint cheap!!

I just picked up a clean used one off ebay for $19.50.
