stuck hood

the Wifes 82 hood won't open the cable to the passenger side is broken anybody know how I can release it? Can I reach it from below?

On the passengers side, under the back end of the hood is a small plug in the well for the windshield wipers. The plug is on the seperation between the engine compartment and the windshield wiper compartment..

It's not easy but you can get a small screw driver thru this plug then you can trip the hood mech..

Thanks guys, I had heard about the plugs but thought they were inside the car. I'll wait until the new cable arrives before releasing it don't want to have to do it twice.

Hey Craig Sr.,
I had a similar problem. After I paid $40 for a new cable, I found only the end was bad and fixed it. They have a little plastic tip that screws fast to the mount and they break off pretty readily. I took a hose clamp and cut some pieces out of it and wrapped around the ends of the old cable and clamped it down tight. Never did use the new cable. . .
