Hi guys and gals. I have a 77 Vette that recently aquired and i am in the process of resotring it. I have run into a problem with the rear trailing arm. I need to know how to remove the shaft that holds the tire. I ahve already removed the spindle at the rear of the unit but do not know how to remove the shaft. Please help:)

From your post, it's difficult to understand what the situation is.

Do you have the arm off the car?

Do you have the kunckle assy removed from the arm?

Have you removed the nut and the outer bearing? If so, you should have an axle with an inner bearing pressed onto the axle shaft.

If you are at that point, to remove the inner bearing, you need to either use a 20- or 50-ton hydraulic press and the appropriate bearing removal adapter or an acetylene torch to heat the bearing's inner race enough to remove it after you cut the roller cage and remove the rollers.

This is one of those where a picture is worth a thousand words. ;)

My guess would be from his post, he has the yolk off the axle shaft and can't get the shaft out of the housing in the trailing arm!!:thumb
If this be the case, there are a couple ways, but none easy by a "Do it Yourselfer"!!:thumb

C3 rear wheel bearings are better left to a Professional or in my case a "Professional Hillbilly"!!:boogie:boogie:boogie

Sometimes you can get them out with the trailing arms on the vehicle, but somebody that don't know what their doing can really Screw things up!!!:thumb:thumb:thumb
And then to reinstall new ones Right, you really need some specialized tools, shims and know how!!:thumb

Sounds like you're rebuilding the spindle/bearings/arms. They're press fit or should be. I had links here at one point to my threads on how to do this job correctly. You should be able to find them if not let me know.
