Speaking of hardnoks:
Avoid these bozos like the plague.
You are correct these spectureGuard license plate covers do not work. They claim that if you are behind the plate or you look straight on your license plate will be clearly visible. Not true. These SpectureGuard plates totally block the view of your license number so you will be pulled over by a law enforcement officer almost immediately because it's so obvious that you have blank out your license number which is clearly obstructed by this plate. I wouldn't worry about photo radar because any Law Enforcement officer will be on you in seconds. Yes it is that obvious. It clearly shows that you are concealing your license plate number to anyone behind you i.e. motorists and police. You might as well walk into a bank with a ski mask on.
My advice don't get them save your $$$ and hassles from Law Enforcement for something that does work.
They are from a company called TelstarOne out of Homosassa Springs, Florida using a P.O. Box-(so they can't be found).
There are a bunch of crooks doing false advertising and selling crap that doesn't work. If you go to their website you will notice all the BS disclaimers throught their whole website with no guarantee on their products..Why is that? Because they don't work. Big rip-offs.
Notice the last sentence in their website because as previously mentioned it's not true your license numbers will be block from anyone behind you or straight on.
Avoid them with extreme prejudice.
Here are their false advertisements in their website.

How does photo radar work?
Special camera and computer technology combine to photograph the back of your vehicle as you drive by, and record your speed at that exact second. Based on the results - a ticket is then issued to the owner of the vehicle. Radar and laser detectors are ineffective due to the narrow beam width and angle across the road. Even if you do detect the beam, its too late. You're caught!
How does SpecterGuard work?
Photo radar operates at known angles to the direction of traffic flow. Using a passive, state-of-the-art light-bending lens, the camera is unable to identify your vehicle. A 5-minute installation is all that is required. Note that the license plate will still be completely readable from straight on.
