Hey guys,

Too excited... Next Wednesday (April 6'th) I am getting a Magnuson supercharger on the Z. Im hoping to get over 600 HP at the crank since the car already has some mods done to it. Anyone else with a supercharger have any advice?

Happy vetting!

Michael

You going to be one happy camper with some very serious traction issues.

Whay type of tyres are you currently running? That was one issue that I have some concern about. I guess time will tell...

Michael

Congrats on a cool mod...

Should make a great daily driver with killer performance..

Congrats

Thats what I would like to do to my 04 convertable, keep us informed about the performance and driveability. I hear nothing but good things aout them. Wil you have to buy a modified hood?

Stosh

Hey Stosh. I bought a new ACI hood which fits perfect. I will have a lengthy post after I am done with a before and after. She should be ready here in about 5 hours.

Cheers,

Michael

A full report will follow... But right now all I have to say is OH MY GOD. This thing moves. I can be in third gear at about 60 and it will accelerate like it would in 2nd gear w/o the supercharger.

Wow,

Michael

The supercharger was the best mod I did...

Is there is any long term effects on the engine that could be caused by the supercharger? Some people say it shortens the engine's life and I dont know how true this is.

Does your fuel mileage goes up significantly? would the car still be useable for day to day driving?

Hey Hitman1,

I have not heard anything in regards to longevity of the engine. I have noticed about a 1-1.5 mpg difference in my car. I use mine as a daily driver and I get about 15 mpg now. Hope that helps.

Michael,
Keep us informed, how do you like it so far? Did you Dyno it yet? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well after a weekend of driving I think I have finnaly gotten used to the different power curves and shifting points.

In general driving (home-work-lunch-girlfriends-home-dinner-etc..):

The car is very easy to drive. I have noticed about a 1-1.5 mpg difference... I have not noticed anything different as far as easibilty to drive. The car does not have trouble pulling a way from a stop sign/lights at low revs. Just really easy.

On highways and interestates:

The car runs equally as good. I have noticed no difference in MPG. I drove to some country land I own about 30 min away from where I live on a new two land highway and let me tell you when you want to get some passing done it will move. I can be crusing at 65 and need to pass three cars.. stick into third and go and in an instant they will be looking at my rear end.

Problems I have noticed:

You for sure can not go through turns like you used to, you really have to be careful beucase there is so much power on tap that it will move the rear end on you very easily. Just as fast through the corner you just have to be patient and let the car do its thing.

The clutch also seems to get a little sticky if you drive the car hard for a little bit. I am going to install a bigger clutch in the car as I dont think with 600 some HP the stock clutch can really stand it.

Overall impression: This is well worth the money. The car has been great to drive and if your having a bad day its pretty easy to fix. I am going to have the car dyoned this September and I am hoping to get somewhere around 590-620 at the crank. If you guys have any furthur questions feel free to shoot me and email or call me.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael -

The Magnuson is a roots type, right?

I am hearing you talk of a stock clutch, so is it safe to assume your car is mostly stock except for the new SC setup? (does it have hardened output shafts etc.?)

I am curious and may have this kind of thing done to my Z in lieu of buying a 500hp Z06.

Will you have your car at the funfest?

best regards -

You can read the mods that I have - so in some ways it is stock. As for the clutch I just want to upgrade it. The stock clutch so far has held up well for what it is. I just prefer to have a stronger clutch in there. The car will be at FunFest and we are going to put the car on the dyno. Just shoot me an email when the time comes and you can drive the car if you want.

Cheers,

Michael

If you take the car to the strip, or do too many hole shots on the street you'll need a heavier clutch. As you say, the stocker will hold up for a while, but it's just a matter of time. The Maggie produces a lot of low end grunt, so you're doing the right thing.

Problems I have noticed:

You for sure can not go through turns like you used to, you really have to be careful because there is so much power on tap that it will move the rear end on you very easily. Just as fast through the corner you just have to be patient and let the car do its thing.

You'll get used to it. A blown Vette is pretty tractable compared to say a turbo car. The power is pretty linear and easy to modulate once you get the hang of it. I track my car a little bit, and it runs like a scalded cat on the track. It's fun to see the look on Porsche owners faces as you blow past a GT2. :D

Leave your traction control on until you gain more confidence, then let 'er rip!!

Hi Michael -

That's a darn nice offer! Maggie and I LOVE the FunFest, and if all goes well, we are staying over this year. At the very least we will be there Saturday.

Thanks for your reply - I'll be talking to you more about this supercharger I am sure....

best regards
