1989 Convertible
Hi All:

I just bought a 1989 convertible 6 speed off of Ebay that has a 1995 ZZ3 crate motor in it . When I got the car, I found that the motor had the following added to it: Lingenfelter Superram upper and lower intakes; fuel injectors and rails; 58 mm throttle body, and ceramic coated headers. I got the receipt from the seller, and the work was done in 1995 when the engine was installed, at Lingenfelter in Indiana. I know the ZZ3 supposedly has 345 hp from the factory. Any idea what kind of hp was added with the Lingenfelter items? The engine feels as though it has a mild cam in it, but could just be the way a ZZ3 runs from the factory.

My nephew races WRX's and after driving the car says I only have about 300 hp at the rear wheels.

Also, the A/C doesn't work. I had a shop look at it and they said the following: The compressor is fine, they charged the system OK, but the "Blend Doors" don't operate and that's as far as they will go. The car does have the climate control system in it. Any ideas if I can fix it? Is it a common problem?

Thanks for any help. I am a Mustang 5.0 guy converting to GM.

I'm not sure how you're friend can "feel" a horsepower number, but you will lose some horsepower from the motor through the drivetrain to rear wheels. With a 6 speed it won't be as much as an auto. but it might be as much as 30 HP.

Any guess on how much hp the Lingenfelter intake system put on the ZZ3?

Thanks JM. It's exactly what the car is doing. The previous owner had a sound system installed and replaced the factory radio. I'll start with the Climate Control unit and hope I find a disconnected wire from when they installed the radio.
