synthetic oil in a 65?

hello..i have a 65 that had the engine rebuilt 20 years ago with less than 40 hours on since...runs great, great oil pressure...just finished the restoration and probably gonna drive the crap out of it this summer...i can't resist!...anyway, what are the opinions on synthetic oils?...it's a 327/300 4 speed....also, any good shows coming up in ohio or southern michigan?...thanks

all that I can tell you is that when I got my '65 (with the SB 327/365) 2 months ago, it had also just completed a brand new frame-off restoration. Only had approx 500 miles on the motor since the rebuild. The shop told me specifically NOT to run synthetic. I'm not a mechanic so don't really know the reasons why but I tend to try to listen to people that know a lot more than I do.
Also, in the past, I think I recall someone telling me that once you start using a certain type - synthetic or non-systhetic - that it is best for the engine to stay with that type.

I'm sure others a LOT more knowlegable than me will give you better answers.

This synthetic oil thread has been beat around here before. I put it in my '66 427/390 this spring. My reasons were familiar:

1. Less friction = less heat.
2. Less friction = more horsepower.
3. Less friction = longer engine life.

The naysayers never have any concrete information regarding the reasons not to use synthetic oil but the proponents can site concrete research indicating the benefits. It's early in the year but so far so good and no, I haven't had any new oil leaks pop up.
