Hello everyone and happy spring! I just took my CE LT4 out for a ride and noticed that on the digital display under the MPH a SYS is flashing. It will flash 3 times then stop for about 1 minute and then flash 3 times again. This is continuing over and over. I went through all the gauge functions like the volts, coolant temp and oil temp and as soon as I change from one to the other SYS starts flashing. I checked the manual but could not find anything related to this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

:thumbYou have a code in your computer telling you something is malfunctioning. You will need to pull any codes from the plug on the bottom of the dash on the drivers side. Do you have a Factory Service Mamual?

Most likely the battery. Have a load test done and don't drive until its fixed. A bad battery will over tax the alternator and kill it.

Uh...that's not real helpful considering nothing was said about what one uses to "pull" any codes.:confused Sheesh.

When "SYS" blinks, there's a fault code in the centrol control module (CCM) which some, also, call the "body computer". There are no consumer scan testers which can read the CCM. You need either something like a TECH 2 or use the procedure in the FSM Chapter 8 to read the codes.

It's said elsewhere that the flashing "SYS" message, especially if there are no other lights (check engine, service ABS, etc) on, can also be indicative of a charging system or battery problem and that is correct.

What I'd do is verify the charging system is operating properly and the battery is in good condition. If you do that and you still see a flashing "SYS", then I'd look-up FSM page 8D-3 for the procedure to pull codes from the CCM using the IP display to view the codes...or...use a TECH 2 or Mastertech scan tester with software which supports 96 Corvette.

Good luck.:w
