SYS signal

I have been listing threads about problems with PKE....while going down my list of solutions provided from the CENTER I taped a dime over the sensor on the driver door, now the SYS comes up by the fuel gauge when I start the car? When I drove the car, nothing happened,,,,no doors locking, no lights flashing.....any comments
