Ok, going to try to describe this part without a pic. When I put on my 1981 top, there is a pin that slides in by the windshield and a pin that slides in the roof frame. I noticed the plastic sleeve for this pin around the roof frame is cracked. I haven't been able to find this sleeve, just the one for the windshield. I assume I just remove the plate with the two allen wrench screws in it to replace. I noticed there appears to be a spring loaded piece in the hole also. Anyone have any advice on where to find this sleeve and how to install?

Can I help?

Here's a close-up of the part Bill linked to:

You're welcome! But on a tech literacy scale of 1 to 10, I'm a 6 at best. :L

We'll muddle our way through together. :thumb

Break down and purchase the assembly instruction manual.

There is a tapping plate behind the t-top receiver on the halo panel. If you remove the two screws at the same time, it will drop to the bottom of the halo panel.

Ask me how I know.

Thanks for the replies guys. It looks like the plastic (that is broke on mine) is part of that whole piece and I just replace the whole plate? I have an AIM although I must admit I have a difficult time understanding it and finding what I am looking for in it...I don't know what halo panel is referring to.

My Ttops need some TLC. These sleeves are both cracked on each side and that doesn't appear to be a major fix. My weatherstripping on the ttops is rough. I have replaced (with great success) all other weatherstrips on the car. I have new already for the tops but I am scared as heck to put them on for fear of the infamous hairline crack that shows up after awhile (I have read about that in old posts) if shim job is not perfect. I don't drive in the rain so I wasnt too worried about it, but that wind noise gets annoying. On another note my 81 looks and runs real good finally after 10 years of tinkering...just finishing odds and ends now. Here is a pic!

Sounds like your are progressing nicely with your '81 :thumb

I have nothing to add that will help with your R&R questions, but I might be able to help you with finding things in the Assembly Manual ;)

What I did was get a 3" 3 ring binder and seperated out the sections by # 1 ~ 15, then put them under tabbed pages 1 ~ 15 and in alphabetical order ;)
e.g. Under tab #1 it goes from Sheet #1 and sequenced thru in order A01 thru A12, The A section end with Sheet #74. Then still in Section #1 comes the B portion and goes from B01 thru B12 and from pages#1 ~ 92 and on and on thru J section.

If you look at the index page you will see what I did ;)

The index is broken down into sections:
  • Body
  • Frame
  • Front Suspension
  • Rear Axle & Rear Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Fuel Tank & Exhuast
  • Steering Mechanism
  • Wheels & Tires
  • Chassis Sheet Metal
  • Electrical - Chassis & Body
  • Radiator & Grille
  • Bumpers & Misc.
  • Misc Paint & Water Test
Each of the above sections have subsections ID'ed via numeric/apha with what is in each subsection e.g. Under Section 1 Body is C01~C12 is Roof ;)

Hope that helps, if not it was a good review for me and maybe others :D

Thanks for the advice. My 81 has come a long way. Had it since 1998 at the ripe age of 23. Recent upgrades/maintenance: new paint, seats, brakes, radiator, tires, exhaust. Engine all stock. Still so much left to do on the list...
