OK all you mechanical tach people...
My cross gear seized up, destroying the dist. shaft, so I have to replace both. Looking at all the parts suppliers, it seems as though I can either get an OEM cross gear or a "new and improved" cross gear -- which is the way I want to go. Actually, I plan on getting the cross gear kit, which usu. includes the gear and the coupler.
The question is: Mid America sells their kit for $39.99, while Ecklers, Corvette America, and Corvette Central sell one kit for $40-$55 and another for $75-$90. Is their a difference in the kits?
Ecklers et al. seem to say their cheap kit is the OEM pieces while the expensive kit is the one "guaranteed not to destroy the mainshaft". Mid America only has the one kit, and it, too, is "guaranteed not to destroy the mainshaft".
If you want part numbers, CC's are:
272100 for $39.95
271001 for $74.95
Corvette America's are:
1596 for $89
33004 for $49
Mid America's is:
609-469 for $39.99.
