I havent started the vette since oct. I needed to move it out of the garage to work on my truck. when i went to do this the batt. was dead, i didnt have time to charge it so i jumped it. during this process i noticed that the tach was burried past 7000, it stays there when the key is off. I know that the tach is on the window fuse and that isnt blown. Any help is appriceated.

thanks alot,
anthony.

You've probably done it already ... but if not ... simply try switching ignition to ON but no further ... not to start but simply to ON. Then switch off ... sometimes this will cause the needle to drop.

Anthony.... if it turns out yours is trashed somehow let me know. I actually have a spare tach from a 1979 (with the 79 flag emblem) you can have gratis.

I have a similar problem with my 79 camaro. I put in new gauges (upgraded from idiot lights) and when I turn the ign on, it goes to 1000rpm and steadily climbs. Hit the turn signal and it climbs to the beat of the signal. Turn the car on and it BURIES itself all the way right. I needed a tach filter. Have one, haven't installed it yet so I don't know how it works. Maybe you need a new one? The way I understand it is that there is not much holding it together according to this website:

I picked one off a 3rd gen v8 at the junkyard for $2.00. I built one from that guy's diagram and it didn't work properly, ymmv.
