Was wondering what general problems there were with a non-working tach. I disconnected the tach from the distributor.I turned cable by hand and the tach needle was moving on the tachometer. There isn't any gear on the end of the cable is there? I've read about the cross gears in the tach going out. My mechanical abilities are somewhat limited to replacing bolt on parts. I'm not very good at troubleshooting so I rely on mechanics alot.
I've been looking at the MSD tach drive as I would like to keep my original tach.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Jeff

Sounds like the gears inside your tach might be the cause. If so, have both the main shaft and the cross shaft replaced, they both need to be in tip top shape if you want them to last.

There's no need to go to a boy racer MSD unit on a stock engine, save your money for more important things.
