tach troubleshooting

the tach on my 75 is not working. Can anyone give me some troubleshooting ideas. I don't want to tear the dash apart unless I have to. Thanks.

Do the simple stuff, like check the connection at the distributor. By pass the noise filter between the tach and the dist. to varify the the filter(capacitor) is not open. The electronic tachs during the 70's had circuit board problems. Does the tach intermittently go dead after driving your shark for a while? If so, the problem is probably an inductive problem within the tach.

The tach is completely dead, has not worked since I owned the car. Thanks for the tip.
