Panama Yellow

As part of the purchase process of my new '04 CE Coupe (yeah!), I was offered the usual "teflon paint protector", in this case a product called "A Touch of Class". According to the Finance Manager, although Lexus and other makes charge $1200 for this treatment, he'll sell it to me for $495 (how nice of him, no?).

Leaving out the obvious downside of the cost, is this kind of paint protection a good idea? Is it a scam? Is the answer "just wax it"?

p.s. if this is a religious topic, I apologise in advance. I couldn't find any mention of it in the archives. ;-)

Just wax it. Honda offers it as well. You can probably find a discussion or two addressing the temps. involved with Teflon bonding.

I'd get a Mothers clay kit, then try a few different wax/polymer systems to fine out which I like. Will the car be garaged?

Thanks for the reply, Likecars. I'll look again for earlier discussions of this topic. Yes, the car is garaged.

No one can show how the teflon is suppose to bond to the surface.

I recommend: clay (flat surfaces at a minimum), Meqs. Tech Wax, Zaino, or Pinnacle Souveran.

There's a surprize...the dealer wants me to give them $500 for something that nobody knows works. Thanks for confirming my skepticism, Likecars. ;-)

:beer yep....I'll put my Zaino finish/protection up against any dealer application

Thanks DWS'03Z.
I'm pretty sure that I'm too new in the CAC community to make a guess about Zaino vs other products. :-)

Zaino is just my personal preference.....there are quite a few outstanding products available. When you have the opportunity to start with a new vehicle paint job, it is really a piece of cake in achieving an outstanding look. :cool

This is a dealer profit margin scam for a $50 wax job. Try Zaino, the shine and protection are outstanding.

It almost feels nostalgic, how much like the bad old days this whole Teflon thing sounds.

I had my car in the dealer "detail department" (for them to handle a few light surface scratches) and saw this treatment being applied. Yup, looked a lot like someone waxing a car.

CAC is a great resource!

Glad to see that you had the opportunity to "see" how it's done. I thought these scams went out twenty years ago. I guess not! Good of you to check with the guys here. They are the best. Every time I come on here, I learn something new.
I myself like the Meguiars. But as you can see, it is just a personal preference.

Panama, like you I also have a MY z06. I have gotten the best results with Pinnacle Souveran. 1st clay, then polish, then wax with Pinnacle. I've tried many different products including Zaino. I'm happiest with the Pinnacle. A little pricy, however the end result is well worth it. And it's easier to work with.
