temperature guage always on "LO" FIXED

See Below posts

'87 , everything else reads ok. Oil temp ok. Fan kicks in apparently
at the right time. I re-set the ecm, checked the sensor connection.
Why the LO??
sending unit or cluster!!?!??! or............

same thing happened to my 88". it was the temperature sending unit.

This is what the book by Gordon says: Disconnect the sensor. It is between the number 6 and 8 spark plug wires. Ground the dark green or blue wire at the sender conector with a jumper wire to ground. Turn the key on but don't start the car. If the display reads 330F replace the sensor. If it still says LO, check the sensor wire for an open circuit via the blukhead connector cavity C2, cluster cavity D4, If the circuit is okay the cluster is the problem. I'm bettinn it's the sensor. 3:1 odds here in Vegas. :beer

"LO" temp always on

I thought the sending unit was under the throttle body tps
connector.
The one your speaking of is the engine temp switch, right?
Would tha effect the coolant switch???
Now I'm really confused.

Dual sensors or triple

One is for the ECM

One is for the gauge

The other is for Fan control
( Do you have the AUX fan?)

The Cluster on an 88 ( Working backwards)

On the "A" connector ( 16 pin dual rows C & D)

The #1 pin is the one closest to the row letter ID

D1 BLACK GND
C1 TAN ( Oil pressure )

D4 Drk Green Coolant temp
75 ohms HOT 1500 cold

This Drk Green goes thru the firewall connector C-100
Pin C-2
Stays Dark green till it hits the sensor.

NOTES
The OIL TEMP SENDER IS THE SAME COLOR!

The Coolant sensor has a FLAT connector
(spade style)

Aux fan sensor
On block
Drk Green/ White
Direct to Aux fan relay on pin F
Low to run.

I agree with Sarge... ground the line if the cluster goes to HOT
( and it will light the red light)

Replace the sensor.

LO temp

Thanks guys,
My fathers day is cut out for me.

Vigman,
Which sensor switch, the one under the tps or the one on the
block ?

Da Gauge

On the Block pass side between 6&8 ( SPADE LUG)

but check... sometimes there has been CREATIVE wiring done.

the one on the front of the block ( near water pump) is a 2 pin job... that one is for the ECM

The AUX fan is between 1 & # drivers side, it has a round pin style connection.

Roger that....
I'll try a buncha stuff...
get back to you guys and let ya know

top,vig lo temp, Whaddayathink

OK I tried the grounding thing from top.
I get a 299 reading....guess the clusters ok.

Whaddayathink. replace sensor? What is the proper reading??

its working!!! Read

You guys are the best.
Fu#$king geniouses!!! I guess the connector was LOOSE!

One final lame q.
Should the spark plugs have washers or not?

aluminum heads.

Cool!! Glad it's working for you. I had the same thing happen with my EGR. Keep getting Code 32's until I took it out, 'twisted' the wire around a few times and put it back in. Now I have an extra EGR 'cause I ordered one also.....oh well...... :beer

They should be the tapered seat plugs with no washers.

haha

this site is so nice,, everyone hels each other, hehe, anyways,, yeah i had that same problem,, for about 5 minutes, accept for,, my reading was saying my tempaturewas 299 all the time, my dad pops my hood, and he wiggles the wire around, and i my bare wire on that sensor on the block touching the block,, which is the same thing u did when u grounded your sout,, when that one guy told u too,,,

spark plugs

The manual says tapered, but the plugs i took out, and new ones installed ( bosch platinum) where flat with washers, Aluminium heads may be the differance.

re plugs

The owners manual says fr3ls. they come with washers!!!

yet, the service manual says tapered, no washers!!!!
