Terrible Noise - R.F. Headlamp

All of a sudden the Right Front Headlamp is making a tremendous racket when it lowers. The lamp will go to the down position but it sounds like the motor is still running and making a grinding sound. Is this a self repair or a shop repair?

Any thoughts?

It is not that difficult to replace the motor/actuator assembly. See:

I think that I have seen ads for aftermarket replacement gears, so rebuilding the unit might be an option, too.

My guru tells me that while the gears on C-4 lamp motors can be replaced, the motors for C-5s are sealed, thereby requiring a new motor.

GM wants $227 for the motor + $176 to install.

In either case, Warranty Direct will cover all but $100 so it looks like that's the directoin I'll go.

Well, I went back and read your original link and posts. Looks like you had some success. I then went to http://www.rodneydickman.com/corvette.html and agree that it would be much better to spend $45 than $100. But alas and alak, I couldn't get old Rodney's site to "add to cart" no matter how many times I clicked.

Since this does not have to be taken care of immediately, I'll keep trying.
