We've all experienced the thumbs-up reactions as we cruise through town. No surprise really. It happens to me "every" time I go out for a cruise. :D

Well, we invited friends to the cottage on Saturday. The Mrs. of the couple is principal of a school for A.D.D. students. As nice as she is, I struggle to shake my memories of my principal when I was a high-school "rebel". :ugh Yeah, I was what I was. :gap

She kept insisting that she wanted to go for a cruise in Heaven, so who am I to argue with a lady? We drove into the nearby town and prowled the streets for a few minutes, got some waves and whistles, then blasted back to the lake.

Here's her eMail that just arrived.....

Hi Bob,
I wanted to thank you very much for taking me on the Ultimate Ride yesterday! While we were driving, it brought back so many great memories from high school ... I was the tomboy hanging out with the guys and driving around - just for the fun of it! It was better than the alternative of dating which never worked for me anyway!!

We so appreciated our time with you and Susan yesterday - it was an absolute delight - thank you for extending us the invitation.

Smile,
Colleen

These cars really are something. Guard them with your lives. :cool

You are so right. I took an 87 year old woman for a fast ride after church while her husband waited in their car. Her skirt was flying all over but it didn't bother her at all. She said it made her feel like a young girl and she really enjoyed it. I never turn down anyone who wants a ride. When I was nine my father had a friend of his who owned a 59 vette take me for a two hour ride and I still remember every minute of it. Time to give back with pleasure.

This past Mother's day, I was out for a ride with my 22 yr old son. He was driving. I needed something at a store and ran in quick while he waited outside in the car. As I came out of the store there was a guy talking to him. When I got to car the he told me of his mother who once had a 60 corvette and how she would love to see this one even though it's a 61. I asked him where she lived. It was only about 10 minute away. So I offered to follow him there. On the way to the house he called his mother and told her to look out the window that he had a surpise for her. As we pulled up to the house I could see her looking out the window. Next thing I know she's running out the front door. Looking over the car she started telling me all about hers. Her son came out of the house with an old black and white photo of it. I asked her if she'd like a ride. Her eyes lit up. Then I asked her if she can still drive a stick shift. "You bet your sweet a** I can" she replied. I said "OK, let's go for that ride. You're driving". When we got back she hugged me and thanked me for letting her remember what it felt like to drive an old corvette. She said "I know I'm not your mother, but this was one really nice Mother's Day gift". Some people will think I was nuts for letting her drive, but it was such a gratifying feeling for me to know how much it meant to her.

Yesterday I went for the second trail run in the 65502.... there is a soft serv Icream place about 5 house up the steet from mine. I live in a residential neighnorhood and this Icecream out let has been there for over 40 years. It's only open in the summer as is owned by a mom and pop who live in the house next to the custard stand.

On Sunday there is allways a big crowd their slurping down the goodies.. As I drove by on my way out....just starting to wind 2nd gear..I looked over and every bodies mouth and eys were on the vette. I finished winding second ..Sweet Thunder Screaming...(Only up to 2500..New Motor)..and went for the number 3 gear as the 502 was exhaling.....the Crowd went crazzy with applause....

One guys Icecream jumped outta the cone as he was applauding...:L . I gave a wave and stepped on it in third.. and pulled away. That was cool....

On my way home after the 6 mile stint..I drove by again with the 502 exhaling in 2nd as I slowed down for my drive way... And the Crowd went crazzy again ...

These old cars still get the love.... Amazing

there isan old farm with a homemade ice cream store out front about a mile down the road from me. Everytime I do down the road in summer when they are open everyone turns to see what the noise is (side pipes on Baby also :) ). The little kids especially start running towards the road. good thing there is a fence around the place before the road or I don't think some of those kids would survive.
All the attention sure is fun :beer

Your car is absolutely dynamite looking. I'll bet she sounds just as good!!!! Know what you mean about "making peoples day" by a ride in the vette..We were at a car show Sunday called Corvettes for Kids in Allentown PA. To see the faces of the few kids who presented us with their trophies as members of our club drove them around just "MAde our day"!! Is your car coming to Carlisle??? What a sweet ride..............

what night are you going up?

Linda and I are going up late Thursday night so if you are going the same time you are welcome to meet up with us and we can cruise together. Nice to be able to keep an eye out for each other. I'll be in Baby and Linda in the Lexus.

If any of you can make it out west in August, you need to go to Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada. This town rolls out the red carpet for the old cars(usually 10,000 +). I haven't made it there since '97 but it was great. You will be amazed at all the old iron (and fiberglass) rolling down the streets of Reno. Very large swap meet at the university(I found a set of 57 Bel Air tailights for $200. NOS!). Fireworks, classic car auctions and a just a great time. I will be going in 06 as all I left to do to the 57 is put the glass and stainless back on. 57 Bel Air with 87 Vette front and rear suspension. Ramjet 350 and 700r trannie. When I drive this thing down my own street everybody stops and waves. Yeah these old cars get in your blood and never let go of you. When you drive them you make new friends every where you go and always hear about "when I was a kid..."

Heh Barry,
I'll be leaving around 3:am on the 26th arriving some where around 6-to 6:30 am Friday the day of.

I won't be driving hard as the motor isn't broke in yet and I'll be varying speed from 60 to 7o mph off and on as I go. It would be nice to have a support on the way up just to be sure. If you think you can deal with me changing speed evry now and then let me know.

I usually go up the AC expy...to the Walt Whitman Br. out 76 to King Of Prussia and Pick up the PA Turn Pike west to Carlisle. What's a good place to meet?? I'll Email you my Phone number....

3am?? that;s not leaving late, that's leaving EARLY the next day! ;LOL

Linda is in a play and has rehearsal Thursday night so we can't leave until she is finished so were planning on leaving around 10pm or so since we have a room for Thursday night. You still have my phone #? call me and I'm sure we can work out a nice compromise for both of us. On that brand new motor i'd like to see you have a "support vehicle" also just to be on tha safe side (and me with Baby - who knows what could happen to her on the way).

That's a great story and thanks for sharing it!

Every time I take my car out I put a smile on somebody's face in addition to my own. Yesterday I was out for a short drive thru town and a couple in a millenium yellow C5 vert pulled up beside me with their thumbs up.....too bad I couldn't hear what they were saying but their smiles said it all!! Man, there ain't nuthin' like the sound of a mid-year with sidepipes!
