Got chatting the other day with someone who I have known for a while at work. Some other people joined us for a meeting and the conversation turned to what was happening in the way of a 4th of July celebration in their town.
One woman said she was asked to be a Marshal of a parade but said she would only do it if she could ride in a shiny red, convertible Corvette. Well, someone looked at my friend and asked if "his Vette" was back on the road.
Finding this a little too intriguing to pass up, I asked him about his car. He told me that his car was "sort of a legend". He went on to explain that back in 1974 he bought a brand new 74 big block red covertible Vette off the showroom floor. He drove it a couple of years and then parked it in his mother's garage. He said that shortly thereafter the gas crisis began and made the thing impracticle. He said that he had planned to store the car a couple of years.....however, he got married, got a demanding career, had kids, etc. , etc. and 27 years later...the car has NEVER left the garage! It has 4800 miles on it! Talk about a survivor...
I vowed that I would not share the identity of my friend...and NO...he has absolutely no interest in selling the thing. He has an older son and they are planning to do a father son project...could you imagine as a 16 year old getting a near perfect convertible Vette with 4800 miles on it!!!
Thought I'd share this with others...who may, like myself,...have heard these urban legends of cars tucked away with near zero miles, barely driven...and thought "Yeah. right!!".
