I bought a 160 thermostat, and the gasket has a peal and stick, one side is sticky and the other is not. Do you put the sticky side down or up? And do you have to drain some of the coolant on an 85 vette?:confused

Replaced mine had a real problem sealing the thero. houseing, so it would'nt leak. I have an 84 and the houseing neck has a small rib on the mounting flange. No matter what kind of gasket i would install, with or without sealant it would not seal. I believe, if you encounter this same problem, you may try same gasket product thats used on the overdrive pan. Or i found a gasket from Mr. Gasket #738G,for chev 454's ect: It's pricey but it sealed perfectly. Good luck!!

PS: yes you will have a bit of spill,if you don't drain some out of lower hose.

Your engine bay is to clean. How do you get it so clean? Do you shampoo your engine? Or just alot of elbow grease?

How do you stop your valve covers from leaking, both my 84 and 85 leak?

I shampooed my engine in my 84 and it made the check engine light come on.

I'm to scared to put the water to it again.

Elbow grease & armorall. If your engine is really grimey, you may have to power wash to start. Then work armorall into all areas with a small paint brush taped to a 12" or 18" stick. This allows access to all thoes had to get areas. Then just wipe off and your done.
Good luck
