I have a 100% stock 93 ...does anyone know what temperature thermostat I should have in the vehicle.

I am considering installing a different Thermostat to drive normal operating temperatures down a little.

Right now, it appears to hover around 215
degrees when idling for long periods ( in cool weather ) ....when running it appears to hold around 195 - 200.

In summer with A/C on 225 - 230 ( ouch! ).

Only 36K miles on vehicle, flushed yearly, no garbage blocking radiator (that I can find).

Thanks

_ken :w

It seems hot but my '94 reads about the same which is normal temps.
I think we all think about the old day's which would be scarey.:eek

I think your temp. is right where it should be....Numbers looked good for me....Mine stays from 193 to about 205 sitting in traffic.......

Normal temps, stock tstat is 180.

Maybe you should think about a fan switch wired to the main fan to keep it below 220F, above that i used to get nervous.

Thanks for the replies folks ...what I am really fishing for is an understanding of the thermostat I should buy to try and get the beast to run cooler ...if I understand the replies correctly, I have a 180degree thermostat currently ...that tells me that I should shop for a 160....correct?

Yes, I know about the fans ....it's crazy to turn on the A/C to get the engine temps down but iut does seem to work ( at least temporarily ).

I am switching to a 3:54 gear this summer and at that time I shall probably switch to a different chip which shall engage the fans earlier.

Thanks.

if your car gets this hot with the stock thermosatat, I would first clean the radiator fins from debris....wether you remoe the radiator from the car or clean it through the hole in the shroud on the passenger side with a vacuum cleaner wand.......even with the 180F thermostat your car should run right around 200 to 210 F all the time..........
