Does anyone know if the stock thermostat is 180° or 195° I thought it was 180° but unless I am reading the Helms wrong it says 195° the car is a 91 L98 6 speed.

Yep...L98 calls for the 195....and....do the right thing - go to the dealer and buy a GM thermostat.....don't try to save a few bucks on something as important as this item - especially on a Vette!

I just bought a 160 from Pep Boys and it has the same manufactures stamp as the stock one.

Pep Boys?
Uh....haven't you seen the other threads about Pep Boys and the what they did to some of their employees that are now defending our country?
Maybe you should search for the threads, then take the part back, and when they ask, be sure and tell them why!

Sound advice. Always get GM parts. The other stuff is just not worth it.

I haven't seen the posts, but this issue wasn't missed by some national talk radio and local news:nono . I couldn't agree more with Interceptor430. These morons are going to loose $'s as if they were FROGS!

I just recently replaced mine (1990 L98) with a "genuine" GM 195 thermostat; but to be honest, next time I would consider the aftermarket ones that stay open when they fail instead of closed.
Then at least you have time to get it replaced instead of boiling tea at the side of the road.

Thanks for all the info and yes I always buy GM parts since I have always bought Chevy pickups. This is my first vette and will soon drain the coolant and replace I thought I would replace the thermostat and the radiator hoses since the car has almost 50k and I don’t know if they are original I see that on this site people use lower temp. thermos My plan is to stick with the 195.And by the way I drove it today for the first time since Nov.

My Genuine GM Thermostat was stuck open. I"ve never heard of any Thermostat designed to stay 'open' when if fails....don't understand how that's possible. I'd like to learn something here if you have a web-link on this.
Thanks.

I'm sure there are many other sites to check out "fail-safe" thermostats but here is one for you...

Did a search on the Pep Boys thing and didn't find anything. Please give me a link so I can print it out and bring it to Pep Boys next time I feel like doing a burnout...
