HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Robbers hit a Hampton man where it hurts Monday night.

Larry Phlegar lives off Big Bethel Road and says someone stole this yellow corvette from his yard.

The car is a 2003 50th Anniversary Collectors Edition Corvette -- a Sports Coupe with only 9723 miles on it. He's had it for ten years.

Phlegar filed a report with police, but it's a tough pill to swallow because he doesn't think it will be found.

"At first you think somebody has moved it, at first you think somebody has borrowed it," Phlegar said. "When I came out, walked around and realized it wasn't on my property anymore. It was devastating."

The thieves also tried to take an ATV, but had to abandon it when it wouldn't start. They didn't realize Larry had taken out the battery.

If you see the yellow corvette -- call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton man has his prized corvette back after someone stole it out of his yard Monday .

Larry Phlegar told WAVY.com Friday his car was found at Peek Street and Meredith Street in Downtown Hampton.

A homeowner found a car parked behind his own. After checking, he found it was a corvette with the plates removed and called police.

Phlegar said he was contacted by detectives that his vehicle was possibly located.

According to Phlegar, the thieves left CDs and a knife behind. They also put 440 miles on it in four days.

Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division told WAVY.com no arrests have been made.

From what I heard whoever took the car drove it hard. The back tires had nothing left to them. Fortunately that appears to be the only damage other than some really hard miles
