I bought my car with the hypertech thermomaster chip and 160 stat. I'm not to crazy about the fan coming on so often, don't want to kill it. Would I have to reset my idle, timing or anything else if I put the factory chip back in??

If I understand which chip you have, it should be the same one that I"ve put in and nothing else would have to be changed. You're actually still using your factory chip some anyways, as the thermomaster plugs in and the stock chip piggybacks onto it. Unless there has been some tuning done on your car that's been done at a dyno for example that requires the HT chip to be there now, you should just be able to pull it out, unplug your stock chip from it and put the stock chip back in by its self.

You wont kill the fan, if you put it back to factory specs it will come on just as much. I have been running mine like the way you have set up with the 160 stat and the fan coming on at 175 for almost three years with no problems.

This chip is installed by itself, no piggyback. The box says " Hypertech Power Chip, Stage 2".

That's good news. I gues I'll just leave it in then.

i am with you on that one. but not really becuase i am worried about the fan but the engine not getting to the right temp. my hypertech made the fan come on at 160 which i still think is to cold. so i have custom chip which is better then the stock since the fan comes on at 205 and i have 195 stat. and so far so good and even at stop lights it gets to 205 and fans cool her right back down and still before over heat temp. but deep this summer i may try getting some one to re-program it to have the fan come on at 195??

Who did your chip?

not sure?? got it from another member who had a 5-speed and the guy that did the chip for him made it for a automatic like i have. but i would like to change it so the fans come on at 195.
