Does anyone know of a thin insulation to put under the console before I put it back together ? Thank you !

Heat

The trick is to reflect the heat before it gets into the passenger compartment. If you can get your car on a lift and put a reflective barrier on the under side of the car above the cat converters this will help.

I constructed a homemade barrier out of 4 layers of heavy duty aluminum foil folded on itself and then placed above the cats (The foil doesn't touch the cats), then after throughly cleaning the underside where metal foil duct tape would go I taped the foil to the undercarriage. It easier to slip the foil over the cats from the front side then side the foil back into position. See photo.

The earlier C5s (I have a 98) got a lot hotter than the 2003 and newer. A year before I did the foil I wrapped header insulation around my exhaust pipes and that made a huge difference with much less heat transfered to the passenger compartment. See photo.

Also, this past week I used a product called "Thermo-Tech sized 12" x 24" adhesive backed heat barrier bought from Amazon on the underside of the trunk and above the mufflers on my 95 Eldorado. It has definitely reduced the heat load in the trunk.
See it here; Amazon.com: thermo-tech heat abarrier

I hope this helps.

Keep 'em rollin' :W
