ok, after finally ironing out my funky idle problem after taking off the t.b. and cleaning the 10 or so years worth of black crud from the inside(previous owner never cleaned it I guess) and replacing the iac my vette actually runs like a vette now. Well, I want to keep it that way so has anyone come up with some sort of filter to go inline with the vac hose that goes from the right side valve cover to the t.b.? I want to try to keep the goo out of my t.b.

nope - never seen one :w

If you were to buy new valve covers you get get a push in breather that has a foam type filter and then goes to your TB. Not sure if you can get such a thing with the original valve covers.

clean it yearly with your routine maintenance (sp i know it's late :( )
So it only needs to be cleaned once a year? Not to bad.

Throttle body's usually only need cleaned every 30.000 miles or more.
Go to auto parts store and buy a can of throttle body cleaner.
Remove the hose and spray into the tb clean around throttle plate and spray into the hole at the top this will clean the passageway to the IAC control
Be sure to use throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner because the carb cleaner can ruin the O2 sensor. I have a ranger that never had the tb cleaned until 114.000 miles it started idling poorly I sprayed it and she is as good as new.No need to remove the tb to clean it.

the black goo comes from ''reversion'' in the intake system...that stuff is coming all the wat back from the combustion chamber...you can reduce the reversion and make your engine run much better by advancing your cam 8*(measured at crank) ....otherwise, no stopping it

can the iac be cleaned on an lt1? i thinks its located under the black corvette cover between the injectors. am i right?

yes, you can clean the iac...its on the underside of the throttlebody, not under the fuel rail cover...do not get any solvent inside the iac...
