any opinion on the power tower spacer plates? Claim is 20 ponies for $120.00.

I hope no one is dumb enough to believe they'll get 20hp from adding an inch between the plenum and TB.

Do you think you could get 40 from 2"? Perhaps 60 from 3"?

This thing will probably give 1-2 ft-lbs of torque and a corresponding LOSS in HP.

Easy.
I wonder about some of these HP booster items but from what I've read most are not up to snuff. Once you go K&N, open lid, freeflow exaust, MAF descreened (if you want to chance it) real HP gains beyond these mods comes at a real price. Any guarantees on that product?

You guys opinion was similar to mine. Snakeoil. I read a previous thread that ended in the promise of a before and after dyno but apparently that never happened or the results were predictable. I'm willing to do some "bolt-on" mods but want to be able to return to 100% stock without much trouble. I'll do the K&N and purchase another open filter housing so I can put the original back. Undecided on the MAT sensor re-location as of yet due to the 7/8" hole required. Will consider the TB bypass if it's not too much trouble to return to stock though I think it would be really simple to return. I've even considered having the stock plenum opened up because a person would never be able to tell from looking. Anyone had this done with verifyable results? I think it's 199.00 to have it done. I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks

Ahh, brings back memories of how I started: a few, easily reversible changes, which progressed into where I am today, after realizing that there were tens of thousands of cars like mine, and thus, despite its first year of C-4 status, it would never be collectible.

Trust your instincts about these mods and ask a lot of questions, as you are. The coolant bypass is quite simple, requires almost no parts, is described in detail on another thread (search) , yet yields minimal change, as do the open box and the K&N. These mods are debated elsewhere, too, and opinions vary as to results.

Before cutting your intake, be sure you understand the effect on your power band. The logic may seem sound, but the bottom line is, nothing is free and improvements to one area of the power band will cost in another. Exhaust and intake mods are compromises, as are choice of each engine component; all driven by how the builder (GM) expects the car to be driven.

I have found so much BS from 'experts' who think they know more than GM's engineers. What I have today is much more respect for them, especially for the price/performance/reliability/serviceability balance of the stock Corvette. I have sacrificed all of that, for sake of having a monster motor. I wish I could trust the car to drive to the store and back, like I used to be comfy driving it to another state.

Understand the trade-offs before changing anything. Asking and listening is a great start. Skepticism is also quite healthy. I only offer this from a basis of kinship. with a sprinkling of woe over some mods I have done.

Well said. I think I'll keep her the way she is. I'm not out to burn the tires off her or set land speed records, I just like to ride in that cockpit and smile to myself. Thanks for the tips. Appreciate it.
