Hey everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions on this one.
As some of you know, i have a 1982 that i have converted to use a carburetor.
Well I was tinkering today and discovered that my gas pedal hits the floor board BEFORE i hit wide open throttle.
Here are the solutions i've thought of. Feel free to comment.

1) leave it how it is. Gas is expensive and WOT is over-rated.
2) Modify the the linkage so that flooring the pedal will give WOT. My fear is that i'd have the same problem i have now, except the pedal hits the stop before it gets back to idle.
3) Shorten the throttle cable. Remove the inch or so of slack and see what difference that makes.

What kind of cable arrangement do you have now - what came on the original Crossfire? Aftermarket? Can you post a photo that shows how the carb end of the cable is anchored and connected?

Here are some pics of the throttle linkage where it attaches to the car.
The parts are all off of the Cross-Fire. I had to modify the mounting bracket to work with the Carburetor.

There are 2 shots. The first shows the slack I have in the throttle cable.
The upper cable is the throttle cable.
The lower cable goes to the transmission.

Any ideas are welcome.

Hey everyone,

I solved the problem.
I added a spacer too the end of the throttle cable where it attaches to the pedal. This removed the 1-inch of slack i had.

For the first time, i'm getting WOT.

Thanks everyone!

That's great. What did you use for a spacer... could you possibly post a pic? Thanks.

I would like to add an additional sugesstion.
The throttle return spring you have on the appears to be small diameter winding of heavy gauge wire. It will be very hard to pull the throttle cable against it. I would suggest that you replace it with a larger diameter spring and add another one inside it.
It's a basic safety precaution. 2 light springs will have the same pulling force as one stiff one, plus if one breaks you still have a backup. There's nothing like a little insurance when it comes to making sure your throttle doesn't stay wide open at the wrong time.:ugh

I agree. Most of the parts suppliers have the double springs. I went a little different route with this Moroso kit.

I was actually about to do something similar to the moroso kit you have.
I have an extra spring and was going to mount it to an extra hole in the bracket.

Thanks everyone!
