Got an 81 4 speed. When I press in the clutch there is a constant clicking. Sounds like the throwout bearing needs to be replaced. Anyone have any experience with replacing this without taking it to the shop. I know it has to be a hassle, dropping the transmission and removing the clutch. I have some time and a limited amount of patience. Would it we worth tackling this?

Thanks

Its not bad...you don't have to remove the clutch...just the trans needs to be pulled...then just remove the bearing from the fork...Inspect the pressure plate tines to make sure those arn't giving you the clicking noise. In my opinion, if the clutch has ample milage on it...you might as well change it if you have already removed the tranny.

Lots of steps involved in doing this. Getting the trans out is not that difficult...but getting it back in...well....that takes a bit more effort. Be really nice to have a tran jack that would hold the Super T10 steady. It does not want to balance on my jack cradle and trying to lift the trans and keep it on the jack cradle while laying under the car...well....gravity will win...and since it weighs about....what 65lbs or so....it is very difficult to stop it from falling once it starts. Just not enough room under there.

Now if you have a lift, trans jack...etc....go for it. And if you have these nice tools...can I bring my car over???? Getting really tired of crawling under the car...back out.....under....out.....under....out....
