Ok When I run my car at 1000 RPMs it runs fine then along comes a tick and BAM RPMs drop? And At idle it will run fine buit after awhile it shudders and almost dies. Also when at stop signs when i press the gas it shudders and almost dies (sometimes it does die). Any ideas plz help!

THanks BJ :(

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Very important. You may also want to check the fuel pressure. On an 84 its 13psi. Also remove and clean out the IAC (idel air controls) you have one on each Throddle body. Also check the voltage on your TPS (throddle possion sensor) I think its supposed to be .54. When was the last time you changed your 02 sensor or your temp sensor (the one in the front of the pass side head?) Are you setting any codes? You may want to join the 84 web site and look around at their FAQs and Tech listings....http://www.crossfire.webhop.net/

Maybe you have a failed lifter. It starts pumping down and bleeds off pressure resulting in poor lift and a bunch of noise?

You could have some very worn rockers arms to boot.

ok tick all fixed:) NOTE TO SELF:Next time your car ticks check flapper valve. Then eveything else!!

Are we talking about your 78 Vette? If we are: There is a little fuel filter in the carb. Check the metal fuel line going to the carb from the fuel pump. There is a small fule filter cartridge placed inside the carb's body. Since you have the line off from the carb, get a beaker/jar and test for fuel flow from the fuel pump. Use common sense with this fuel check and be careful not to test with a hot engine or around sparking parts....i.e. , alt, coil arc, static electricity, etc. Crank the engine over for a few seconds only. The fuel pump should send a strong pulse of fuel into the beaker. If there is a weak flow of fuel coming out the fuel line, suspect a fuel pump giving out.

Cntrhub,
Thanks for the info we checked the fuel pump flow it was nil to zero when we took the line off the carb it was bare and dry not a drop of gas in the line so its safe to say fuel pump is six feet under :( at least i know whats wrong with my baby and she'll be A ok :s

You're welcome. Now, just make sure the cam lobe is not flat. You can tell cam damage by the fuel pump's arm. It will look like those riveted together plated arms are melted, and hanging over like, "mid-drift-buldge."
