Does any one have any tips on rebuilding C4(1988) headlight motors? Should you remove the whole headlight or just the motor? How does the motor remove? What should I look for?

Thanks

Doug

You may want to PM 69MyWay(Chris) he has those things down pat.

That site is for the 84 to 87's. The 88's to 96's used a new two wire motor and a current module. The two systems are not the same.

After you get it all fixed heres a tip someone told me. Do no let the hood drop to shut it cause it will mess up the headlights over time. So just let it down gently & push down on each side to shut it. Sounded good to me !

All you probably need are the bushings, which are only a couple of bucks per side. You will have to take the whole light out to do the job. If you take your time to make sure everything is right, the whole thing shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

I agree with Vettelt193. I purchased the bronze gear and was promptly told by a highly recommended Corvette specialist that the bushings are all I need. I will be returning the $60 bronze gear for the $5 bushing kit.

Also, it is not recommended to use the bronze gear kit on the 84 - 87 models.

I have had the same problem with one door remaining open. The motor had rusted badly, so I had it rewired and it now works fine. However when connecting it the light remains open, and will not close. In the motor there is a diode, or some sort of control that I think reverses the polarity of the motor. Does anyone have an idea of how this works, and where to get one.

For bushings, Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You will need six of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They cost me .69 cents (plus tax) for a pack of three at my local Home Depot store.

Much cheaper than the $7.99 price in MAD, Eckler's and some of the other specialty catalogs and they are the exact same Delrin spacers. Go figure.

If there's a TechTips portal on this Forum search under "headlight bushings." If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get you a copy of the instructions I used when I replaced mine a couple of months ago.
