Will a P285/40ZR17 work/ fit on a 11x17 wheel and be ok for ware and such???

GoodYear's recommended wheel width for the 285 is 9.5 to 11 inches. So, it should work okay.

You didn't mention if the 285 you are considering is a run-flat. If it is, you'll have a hard time getting that stiff side wall to spread out to the 11" wheel.

A 285 would fit on the 17x11 wheel however I don't know if you will like the way it will look. When I purchased 17x11s for the rear I went and put 315 on them
