Tire buying advice

I am a 1st time owner; sold my 1986 Porsche 944 to purchase a 1989 C4. The car is in great shape 160k and fresh paint (black). But it is in need of tires; I think. The current tires seem to have decent tread left, but after taking a closer look at them the sidewalls are a little "dry rotted" and are cracking. My question is...can anyone suggest what tires (brand & size(s)) would be my best choice? I live in the Lower Bucks County (PA) area; thus if you could suggest a dealer I would appreciate it.

hey tony i live up around clarion but back to tires ifyou are going to keep rims that are on your car probally 17/9.5 go to tire rack they have a special on sumotomo 275/40/17 99 bucks each i just bought 2 for the frt of my 90 L98 seem like a very good deal

My car came with Falkens and the treadlife was amazing. I've since bought another set and am very pleased with the ride and handling. I ran the "Tail of the dragon" two weekends ago, (318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of road) and they performed flawlessly. Stuck like glue to the pavement. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. 275/40/17 about 125.00 each

Congrats on the new car. First question is what do you want out of the tires? How will you use the car, daily driver, weekend cruiser, track days, autocross...How much do you want to spend? All of these things should be addressed so the we can all give a suggestion. Stock tire size is 275/40R17. Wheels will be 9.5 inches wide.

I agree with Len, the Falkens are really good tire and reasonably priced as well.

Honesty is out there...

I just returned from my local tire dealer (Tire City) and the salesman said that the tire currently on my car are fine. Wow, an honest salesman! He surely could have "rocked" me for about $800.

Go to Eppie's tires at Welsh and Bustleton Ave's in Phila. They are really knowlegable and have great service/selection . I have been buying tires from them forever. We buy our commercial tires and passenger tires from them and they are tough to beat. See Scott or Jay. They are super nice to deal with. Wait to you see all the wheels in the showroom , the hot iron in the parking lot is a treat also.
