Tire Choice Help Needed

I have been doing lots of tire research recently, too. My impressions are that Kumho has been making a big push recently into the U.S. market, and I also think they were on the winning car at Sebring recently---their first big win. I am always willing to try new products on my cars...sometimes things work, other's don't, but, I don't know, giving new products a chance I think is often a rewarding thing to do for lots of reasons. Be that as it may, I did some ebay searching, and came across two tire "names" that are very inexpensive, but look interesting---something called "Defender Tires" and "Aurora Tires". They appear to be made by major "name" manufacturers, yet marketed under these off-brand names. Does anyone know anything about them???

I did some further checking and found out that Aurora Tires are manufactured by Hankook Tires---also from Korea. I have always felt that having the "kook" part of "Hankook" on the side of your tires in the U.S. is sort of unfortunate, for obvious reasons. They really should rename all their tires sent here, as Bridgestone did from "Ichibachi", or something similar. Anyhow, I checked out the Hankook website---pretty interesting...I hadn't known they were as large as they are. Once again, the Koreans are making a real push in this country, and judging by how well Hyundai did in the recent reliability surveys that hit the news I would give their tires a look and not automatically reject them.

I will buy and install American made products on my car whenever possible. It is definately getting harder to do this in todays market environment.

Most foreign companies are making a real push in this country because this is still where the money is. That being said...it won't be for much longer if we continue to buy foreign products.

Replaced the original eagles on my Callaway with the the F1 GS D3 after seeing them on "90 Callaway". Did alot of research and for the LOOK, MONEY, PERFORMANCE, ETC. I don't think you can go wrong. I love em!

Firestone SZ50 are made in japan, they're Bridgestone. I would put another set on my 87 if they hadn't quite making them in 255-50-16. They have good grip in both wet and dry.

Khumo would have been a consideration for me pricewise, but they don't (or didn't) make the 315's. I checked a local GY dealer yesterday, they quoted me $249 for the 315's which was great compared to Tire rack, but went over Tire rack on the 285's by like $30 :confused

And no Tom, I didn't have the money to buy mine either. Best tire money that I spent, that I didn't have ---- ever
