Tire Pressure

I have a 91 with Goodyear Eagles 275- 40-17 on it the door sticker says 30 psi and the prior owner ran them at 28psi any recommendations?

I'm currently running GSC's all the way around & I keep them at 35psi

I run mine @ 30, I don't think a few pounds less would hurt, might even give u a bit softer ride.

I agree that a few pounds less is best. Not more than 29-30psi hot.

Why so low? I've always heard that higher is better, both in terms of fuel economy and tire life. Lower-pressure tires run hotter and can cause tread separation (witness the Explorer debacle, where Ford was telling owners to keep pressure low to help soften the ride, and Firestone was saying to keep it high to keep the tire cool). Lower pressure tires also have less sidewall support and if they're *too* low will wear the edges of the tread.

Conversely, too-high pressure can wear the centers of the tread and harshen the ride.

I found that on highway driving, I got 1-2 mpg more on average with my Outback tires set at 35 vice 30. Haven't had the Vette long enough to chart that, but my current tires are at 35 because at 28 the car tramlined REALLY badly.
