Tire selection

Anyone know of any decent tires that will fit my 72. Not having much luck for the size Im looking for. 225/60/16 or 225/70/15

Many of the performance tires dont seem to make these sizes that will fit. I could change size but the mph would be off.

Any help is appreciated

245/60 seems to be the most popular size for most people. I run 255/60 on my car. I'd check a tire website and find their calculator for which tire will give you the same tire height. You could always change the geaqr for the speedo cable to accomodate a new sized tire.

well i agree, even though i have been called a liar for it....you cant find any of the newer performance tires in the sizes that will fit the stock wheels, you sure can put a big meaty desert dueler on there if ya want...

nothing against goodrich or coopers but i want something different and i happen to like the wheels i have on my car!

Firestone firehawk Indy 500 was a good tire but they discontinued it! I've got a set w/only 4000 miles on stock aluminum slots for sale .

i run the same size as the L82 series car... works fine... i try to keep it a sleeper and use the stock wheels

see you at the log cabin sometime.. look for a black 1980 vanity plate car with a nasty thump on idle... and four exhaust pipes...

I went to www.tirerack.com and found some performance tires in the 15 inch diameter range and some ultra performance tires in the 16 inch diameter range. Most were in stock.

(I'm late to the game here, but I've been busy planning CruiseFest D). Do you need 15" or 16" tires?
Getting a performance tire in 15" isn't hard...as long as you don't mind the largest width being a 165! :eyerole If you need the width ("yes"), you're out of luck.

16" is kind of an off size and never really caught on. Kinda just got skipped in favor of 17". The only reason I'm going to 17" rims is so I can get 'real' performance tires. I'm still salty though that I can't get white-letter-radials in a 17" performance tire.

What kind of 'performance' are you really looking for? If you honestly aren't doing balls to the wall driving more than a couple times per season/year, you may not really need "Max Performance" tires.

Art Jett, you sure about the Indy 500's being discontinued? I thought they just re-released 'em like 3-4 years ago? That's what I was going to be putting on my car next season if I didn't go to 17" rims.

No no no...I specifically said "performance" tire. There are a few tires out there. BFG has the g-sport Force in a 225x60x15 ($91 each) and Pirelli has a P600 in a 235x60x15 ($192 each). That's about it (from TireRack). There may be some other performance tires that are larger from other brands like Falken or Hankook, but TireRack doesn't carry those mfgs.

My point was that getting a true performance-rated tire with decent width (245 or greater) is very tough to come by in a 15" tire.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me to know that a Firestone store was out of the loop. OR...maybe it's just that TireRack bought 'em all, 'cause they still have plenty in stock! Check it!
