They had to order them. It took less than a week. They could not order the Goodyear F1 supercar tires. I thought that Team Corvette switched to Michellin for a reason, so why not give them a try. The F1's at retail would have cost more than $1240.

Here is what I remember on the Corvette Team switching to Michelin: The Goodyears were terriffic in the beginning of a run but gave up over time more than the Michelins did. There was no way they could double stint the tires and the Michelins could double and sometimes triple.

I hate not having run flat tires. I am afraid to go out of town for fear of having a flat. I keep a plug kit and inflator in the trunk but still don't feel comfortable. I have a new set of BFG T/A on it now and like the tires but. I think i will dump the BFGs and get a set of Good year emts so i can enjoy the car with peace of mind.

I have been driving for to many years to admit to and have never had a flat. I am switching away from runflat's and will carry a can of flat fix. Here on the east coast, you are never that far from a fixit place or a phone anyway. The weight saving alone is worth the switch.

You may want to stay away from the "fix a flat" in a can. The crap that it puts inside the tire to seal the leak will destroy the tire sensor's. Makes for an expensive flat fix.

I don't disagree, but it beats leaving the beast on the side of the road.

I agree with that. I have a AAA-membership, it cost me $45/year, and as soon as you lock your keys in your car or have to have a vehicle towed even once, it's paid for itself. You can also take your car to AAA-rated repair shops and receive a discount on the parts and labor performed. Excellent value to those AAA-memberships.

I agree with that. I have a AAA-membership, it cost me $45/year, and as soon as you lock your keys in your car or have to have a vehicle towed even once, it's paid for itself. You can also take your car to AAA-rated repair shops and receive a discount on the parts and labor performed. Excellent value to those AAA-memberships.

AAA is great...I think there are different levels of AAA...mine costs $104 a year...still cheap for what it covers......

If you have a roadside problem they respond within 30 seconds anywhere on earth and all repairs include a total detailing of the exterior and interior of the car. Oh I almost forgot. Each time they repond they set up a buffett and wet bar. Costly yes, but still a great plan.

Firestone Firehawk EP (RFT) Tires

I have the "Firestone Firehawks" RFT and yes they are noisy but I guess I look at it this; that is the price you pay for a run flat. I am personally not concerned about the extra weight but more about having a tire that will at least get me to civialization if I have a puncured tire or what ever. A spare is just that; something you hope you never need, also like insurance. So the run flats are an insurance policy to me.
I guess when I replace them I will look at them all, but one thing is for sure they will be some kind of a run flat tire. Just my personally feelings on the matter and that is what matters to me the most; peace of mind. . . . .

Im not a fan of Firestone but the tread pattern looks pretty interesting

Yes. Almost exactly what I paid for mine last summer. The Chevy dealer was going to rip me off on replacement Goodyear's so I went with the Michelin's from a local tire merchant. After driving on the Michelin's for a year, I'm still not sure which tire I prefer.

Your price is comparable to tirerack considering the hazard plan and shipping.

We don't have a costco, but we do have a Sam's Club...and they sell tires but they do not have a GSP9700 machine....

I driven my car with the "Firehawks" RFT in the rain and they seem to do pretty good. Just happen to be on the car when I bought it, was the second set of tires. Not sure what I would buy when I replace them, but I would definently buy run flat tires, reguardless of the negitive things I've heard about run flats. They serve the purpose and the alternative is nothing for insurance. Just my opinion of course but to me that is what really matters; peace of mind.

My PilotSport ZP's saved my bacon!

We were coming home from Vegas a few months ago and I was passing a line of slow moving traffic on a long straight-away. Around 90 - 95mph and about the 2nd car from the front of the line - all of a sudden - KABOOM - THWAP THWAP THWAP THWAP THWAP.....

The tire blew out with so much force, it lifted the back corner of the car up a couple of inches. I pulled over, and except for some schrapnel damage to the black inner fender lining, and a 2" hole in my tire, there was no damage. Drove home 120 miles at 50 mph without any other problems.


I'm pretty certain that I'd have lost control if I had not been on runflats that day.

I had to buy 2 new rear tires - making my trip to Vegas a pretty expensive one - I have the road Hazard warantee now though!

This is a good testimony to the run flats that's for sure! Makes me feel better about taking a trip; at least I won't get stranded somwhere. What kind/make of run flats do you have?
