to buy or not to buy

Hey guys I'm looking at a 92 supernatural 400 the car has 43,000 miles on it and is yellow with a 6 speed and tan interior the car seems to be in excellent shape outside of a few rock chips and a small oil leak. I have had a couple corvettes prior to looking at this car and this cars seems as tight as my last one. it has the dual power seats with lumbar the adjustable suspension and a glass top. i talked to Joanne at callaway she said the car was done in 94 when it had 25,000 miles on it. I test drove it for hours yesterday and I'm having a hard time deciding wether or not to buy it. I can buy the car for 21,000 what should I do?

small oil leak? I would look into that. It's something that could lead to a bigger problem. I don't know much about the Callaway's, but I do know that leaking oil isn't a good thing on any car. Spend some money and have a certified tech check it out, it'll definitely be worth the time and money.

yea I had a certified tech check it out it is coming from the oil sending unit behind the intake probaly just needs to be re sealed

new o ring should do the trick. offer him 18k at the most. i've been seeing some callaways and ZR1's on here going for around 20-25k with less milage. all in all sounds like a super ride!

Joanne was the right person to verify the car through!!!! As far as the oil leak, I suspect it is minor as most small blocks from GM seem to leak at the intake base (about 400 bucks to re seal at a shop) or, the sensors on the pan may leak (less than 100 bucks as the seal is integrated into the sensor) or the main seals (bigger $$$$$) FInd out where and take appropriate measures when discussing purchase prices.
The price seems like a great starting point, Does it have other Callaway options (such as the Aerobody, Coilover Suspension, ect?? )

the car doesn't have the aero body kit or the coil overs just the engine mod and exhaust mod

I have negotioated with him for a little bit now he was asking 21500.00 and the lowest he will go is 21,000.00 I offered him 20,000 and he woundn't do it is 21,000 to high and are the super naturals a numbered car Joanne said there are 27 of the 92 models

Not all the SNAT's were numbered however, it should have the plate that says Supernatural on the dash - Mine is under the radio in front of the shifter - Mine is also engraved w/ Reeves' signature next to the build number

21 is not at all bad... Look at it this way, it was about 12k in "Callaway options" - I assume it still has Callaway's exhaust on it?????? Good luck & keep us informed

Here is a pic of the Supernatural Dash plate... this is generally located here up until 94 then, it was shifted over to the passenger side dash vents

yeah it has the same dash plate but i don't recall seeing the number below it like on yours thanks for your input also i was wondering how is the resale on callaways seem to be is it a hard car to get rid of or is there a pretty strong market for them

On my car and the one built right after it, the horsepower number was etched into the plate as was Reeves' signature :cool
From what I understand, it is one of very few SNAT 425 cars

The market?? I would say it is strong... The cars have held value over time and the Callaway name is known for quality cars that perform as advertised and have quality componenets that endure virtually all situations.
My personal thoughts are the B2K cars will really hold value, as they have the RPO number from GM however, a Supernatural Coupe should draw the same or more money year for year than a regular ZR1 (although the more options, the more value to many)
This is why I felt 21k was a decent price for the 92 SNAT
