My 427/400 has 56k miles(at least thats what is on odometer) engine looks pretty clean. I've read my threads on guys putting in 502 crate motors and new tranys, and store the matching #s investment for resale later. Can anyone tell me how much these BB"s go for w/trans,and do they perform well in my 67 coupe? Thanks again. Jim

PS- Where did you buy them?

Here's some data..

GM Performance Parts 502ci/450hp 502 H.O.

7501 N.E. Hwy. 65, Fridley, MN 55432; 877/860-6100; www.friendlychev.com

Chevrolet’s 502ci/450hp H.O. is one of GM Performance Parts’ best power-for-the-dollar engines you can purchase. The torque and horsepower dyno curves this beast is capable of delivering can turn your street machine into a street terror. The bulletproof Gen-VI bottom end is stuffed with a forged rotating assembly that can withstand the abuse of GM’s rectangular-port cast-iron cylinder heads. When the hydraulic-roller camshaft actuates the 2.19/1.88-inch intake and exhaust valves, this big-block belts out some serious power. The 502 is fully assembled with a 6-quart oil pan, windage tray, 14-inch flexplate, and a torsional dampener. All you need to do is add your favorite 750-cfm carburetor, HEI distributor, and exhaust system and you will be winning races in no time. Contact your local GMPP dealer for ship-ping fees.

I am not sure about the 502s. I just purchased a 454 HO crate engine from GM I went the dealer who sells me all of my trucks and they could only sell it at jobber price,he checked inventory to see who had alot of them in stock ,he explained these guys probably discount them and they did.

Jeggs and Summit sel them also

We have a Member here named viet nam vette. He is in the process of one of these conversions himself you might want to check in on some of his recent post to see the troubles he has run into

As any respectable builder will testify to, rather then ( TO SEE THE TROUBLES HE HAS RUN INTO ) the above post should have read, :) " to see the challenges he has faced during his conversion " :)

Stepinwolf

P.S. and yes you should crate, keep the original stuff on the shelf, and install whatever is necessary ( engine, tranny parts, or whatever ) in order to make the experience as enriching, and trouble free as possible.
